MICRO REALISM · VENICE, LOS ANGELES
Small-scale realism with fine detail and soft shading — trees, animals, statues and symbolic pieces — tattooed at The Venice Canvas in Venice, Los Angeles.

THE WORK
Micro realism packs the depth of a realism tattoo into a much smaller space. It takes careful planning: too much detail at too small a size blurs over time, so every piece is sized to keep its detail readable as it ages.
Recent micro realism work includes a Joshua tree on the ribs, a bull skull, an Icarus forearm piece, hourglasses and classical busts — often mixed with fine line or geometric elements.
Good to know: placement matters. Flatter areas with less stretch, like the forearm, upper arm or calf, tend to hold fine detail best.
QUESTIONS
It depends on how much detail the design needs. I’ll suggest the smallest size that still keeps faces, textures and shading clear over time.
They often overlap, but fine line focuses on clean line work, while micro realism uses shading and texture to make a small design look three-dimensional.
